Admission Requirements:

A candidate is deemed eligible for consideration for admission to a Diploma programme if she/he has obtained:

The Uganda Certificate of Education with a minimum of five passes at the same sitting or an equivalent qualification, and
At least two Advanced level principal passes in approved subjects at the same sitting of the Uganda Advanced Level Certificate of Education Examination (A-level) or an equivalent qualification.
For the purpose of this regulation, except where otherwise provided for, all subjects offered by the Uganda National Examinations Board at A-level and O-level are regarded as approved subjects. .

KAVI requirements

Within the framework of Kitgum Agriculture and Vocational Institute (KAVI) entry requirements, students aspiring to upgrade from Certificate to Diploma will have to apply for the required level after fulfilling the minimum grades required for upgrading.


The Weighting System

The weighting system of the National Council for Higher Education Entry Requirements are used for the Diploma and Certificate Applicants. Study them carefully before you apply.


1. Direct Entry weighting criteria

Diploma (Direct) Entry

The minimum entry requirement into a Diploma programme is at least one Principal Pass and two subsidiaries or its equivalent. Again all subjects taken at the advanced level are grouped into three:

  • Essential
  • Relevant
  • Desirable
  • Others

The Essential subjects must be passed at least with a Principal Pass.

Certificate (Direct) Entry

The minimum entry requirement into a Certificate Programme is at least three credits; at least a pass in Mathematics and English Language and a pass in one of the following: Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Foods and Nutrition, Agriculture, Geography.


2. The Credit Transfer Scheme (Multiple Entry, Multiple Exit)

Diploma Credit Transfer Scheme

Candidates with a qualifying Ordinary Certificate applying to join the Diploma programme must have a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 2.90 at Certificate Level. They must also pass the relevant bridging courses offered at KAVI to cover their A level gap.
